NYTimes.com Reports On WWE Smackdown Move To SyFy

WWE is moving Friday Night Smackdown from MyNetwork to SyFy in October. The New York Times did a business piece with some interesting quotes from WWE and SyFy executives.

Cable is where it’s at right now, Donna Goldsmith, the chief operating officer for the W.W.E., said in an interview Tuesday.

SyFy’s president, Dave Howe, said he expected Smackdown to bring a new, younger demographic to our brand.

SyFy determined that it could not afford Smackdown when it considered bidding for the franchise three years ago. Although it is more expensive now, we have an ambitious and aggressive growth strategy, Mr. Howe said in an interview.
