Okay, I’m probably the biggest homer for Joseph Gordon-Levitt. If Kubryk can have a man crush for Russell Crowe, why can’t I have a man crush for the Cobra Commander? But honestly, Gordon-Levitt is one of the few actors where I anticipate his next role. From Mysterious Skin and The Lookout, to Brick and last year’s (500) Days of Summer, the actor has shown why he’s an actor to watch.
Soon appearing in this summer’s highly anticipated Inception (opening on July 16th), JGL is already considering his next project. According to THR, the actor is in final negotiations to star in Premium Rush, a on-the-run thriller from Columbia Pictures with David Koepp (Secret Window, Ghost Town) attached to direct.
Gordon-Levitt is also in talks to star in Looper, a science-fiction thriller where he will reunite with Brick director Rian Johnson.
In Premium Rush, Gordon-Levitt would play a New York bike messenger who picks up an envelope at Columbia University, only to be chased throughout the city by a dirty cop desperate to get his hands on it.
Looper is set during a future in which time travel has been invented, with operatives sent back to the present to assassinate criminals. Gordon-Levitt will play a man sent back to kill himself.
The Pulse: For Rush, it seems like Shia LaBeouf’s table scraps. Looper looks to be the better project. It sounds like Timecop-redux but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Plus, I’m a sucker for time travel movies. And as another plus, the science fiction genre has been given a shot of adrenaline thanks to films like Moon, District 9 and Sunshine. Looper could as well.
Sound off: Has my Joseph Gordon-Levitt man crush clouded my judgment in favoring Looper over Rush?
