Desperate Housewives – Episode 6-23 Review

Top Story

Hello and goodbye (for now at least) fellow viewers. I welcome you to the review of the season six finale of Desperate Housewives.

Spoiler-free zone:

What can I say? The storylines end, and two major cliff-hangers are left for the next season (one of which is a blast from the past).

Spoiler zone:

In Susan’s story, we see her and Mike selling stuff that they don’t need in a yard sale including one of MJ’s toys (that they thought MJ didn’t want) which they sold to Roy. However, MJ was not happy about that so they decided to go and ask it back. Unfortunately, Roy had already given it to his deaf grandson so they couldn’t just take it from him. When Susan tells MJ that he can’t have his toy back, Mike encourages Susan to let out her frustration with the whole situation. So she starts telling Mike that he basically “blew it” and that he ruined her dream of having her kids grow in the house she had so many good memories in. I assume that this is going to be Susan’s storyline for next season so I am interested to see how this is going to develop especially since a big twist is revealed in the end of the episode. Turns out that Paul Young (Mary Alice’s husband) will be Susan’s tenant! I always love it when they bring back characters from past seasons!

Bree’s storyline ends with her giving her company to Sam. Before she does though, she tells Andrew and Orson about Sam’s blackmailing attempt. Andrew told Bree that he would willingly go to prison for her, and Bree insisted not to. When she finally does sell her company, Orson tells Bee the hypocrisy of her action, because when he was in the same situation, Bree told Orson to go to prison. That’s when Orson told Bree that he decided to leave her. Now first of all, I like how they tied in all those old storylines. However, do you think Bree did the right thing? In the end she does ask Andrew to give himself in and begins telling Gaby what happened, but I still put myself in her shoes and see that a son and a husband is a different thing. Deciding to give the company was indeed hypocritical, but still…

Now in Lynette’s segment, things get worse when we see that she is about to give birth while Eddie is keeping her hostage. Poor Eddie (if you could ever say that for a strangler) is so confused and has no idea what to do with both Lynette, and him escaping. As the baby is being born, Eddie tells Lynette that the umbilical cord is wrapped around the baby’s neck (as if there wasn’t enough stuff going on). Lynette tells Eddie how to remove it and that he now has a chance to actually save a life. Once the baby was born, Lynette told Eddie that he shouldn’t leave and run away from his secrets. He needs to do the right thing and call the police (Lynette’s speech was much better than what I just said). In the end, he agrees makes his first step to recovery. Thank god Eddie was played by such a great actor, because I couldn’t see someone playing so extreme circumstances in such a convincing way.

Angie’s and Gaby’s storylines were merged together again this week. Gaby tries to get Nick out of the hospital to save Angie, while Patrick told Angie that she will be coming with him to Oregon to blow the bomb up. He wanted to make sure that the bomb was not a dud, and thus threatened to kill both Angie and Danny, in case it was. When Gaby brought Nick to the Lane, Nick passed out (because he was still drugged from the hospital). Thus Gaby had to climb up and save Danny herself. Meanwhile Patrick and Angie are in Patrick’s car and as they begin to move, Patrick stops and tells Angie that the bomb is in her house. He then encourages Angie to go run and save her son as he hits the button on the detonator. Angie runs while there are only 30 seconds on the clock. At first, I thought they would do some fake Hollywood cliché and save the day in thirty seconds. However, kick-ass Angie runs away from the car and tells Patrick (and the audience) that the bomb is in the detonator. Patrick’s final words were “You bitch!” (probably those will be my final words too) and the bomb blows up the entire car. Honestly, don’t mess with Angie frickin Bolen cause she will blow you and your car up! In the end she says goodbye to Gaby as she is still in the run from the FBI. As Danny gets ready to follow them, Angie gives him a ticket to New York to go find Ana so he can finally do something that he wants. And so, we say bye to the Bolens and hope them the best. They where a more than solid mystery and Drea de Matteo did a terrific job!

Last but certainly not least, there appears to be some drama in the Fairview hospital. Throughout the episode we see this former nurse who before she dies, manages to let the hospital know, that she had made a big mistake. In the end of the episode, it turns out that someone in Wisteria Lane had their babies mixed up. We then cut to a shot of Penny, MJ, Juanita and Celia so it is probably one of them. My vote is for Penny since Lynette wasn’t given much to do for next season (apart from her new baby) so maybe that will be her storyline for next year.

So I guess that’s it then. I cannot believe I’ve written over 20 reviews of this show already. In my opinion, the season six finale was a great ending to an overall great season. There wasn’t too much drama/mystery/comedy and the set-up for next season is amazing. I hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did! Goodbye!
