Collins has worked with TNT for the past few years and has coached for 3 other teams in the past.
Collins went 332-287 in coaching stints with Chicago, Detroit and Washington.
Collins interviewed for the position in early May and became one of the leading candidates. Other candidates included Avery Johnson and Sam Mitchell.
But sources say the job is Collins to have right now as the two sides have started negotiating a contract to bring Collins back to the bench.
The job has extra incentives now that the 76ers jumped up in the draft lottery and hold the 2nd overall pick.
