NBA News: Avery Johnson Agrees In Principle To Contract To Coach New Jersey

News

The Nets vowed to name a big time coach, and I guess Avery Johnson was as big as they could get.

Johnson coached the Dallas Mavericks for a little more than 3 years, leading them to a 194-70 record, good for the highest win percentage in league history, but was fired after back-to-back first round playoff exits.

Johnson broke the news himself on ESPN where he has spent the last few seasons as an analyst. “”We’ve come to a verbal agreement and hopefully the Nets will have an official announcement tomorrow,” Johnson said.

The Nets have plenty of cap-space to sign free agents this offseason as well as having the number 3 overall pick in the draft. Along with young stars Brook Lopez and Devin Harris who played under Johnson in Dallas.
