The deed is orchestrated, enacted, and followed through by Dracula’s youngest son, Xarus. The act took place at a meeting of the various sects of Vampire, a meeting that takes place once a century.

Xarus staked him to draw first blood, but it took several other Vamps to help weaken Dracula enough for Xarus to finish the job via decapitation.
