MLB News: Zumaya Undergoes Season Ending Elbow Surgery

News

He was already out for the year, but the surgery will help him be ready for next year.

Zumaya will have a screw inserted into his elbow to stabilize the olecranon fracture he suffered on June 28. The operation will be performed by Dr. Stephen Lemos at the Detroit Medical Center on July 12.

The surgery will allow Zumaya to return near the start of training camp next season, about the same time he would have return regardless.

Tigers trainer Kevin Rand said many pitchers have had this surgery and have come back to pitch.
