Mike Modano on the Red Wings?

News

Mike Modano had 2 decisions on his future in the NHL: The Detroit Red Wings or Retire. Per the Detroit News, there isn’t any other team he’s looking to go to.

Modano joined Wings GM Ken Holland, coach Mike Babcock, and owner Mike Ilitch at a Tigers game on Tuesday. Modano told ESPN Dallas “They’re selling it pretty hard. Having a team like Detroit really interested in me is flattering.”

Modano, 40, spent his whole career with the Dallas Stars organization (including time in Minnesota as the North Stars). He’s played in 1459 games, with 557 goals and 802 assists. His career plus/minus rating is +118.

He might be a solid locker room guy, but can he still play well enough to make a difference? He’s not the player he was 5-10 years ago. In fact, he was -6 +/- last year in 59 games with 30 points. His last positive year was 2006/07, when he was a +9.
