WWE Monday Night RAW Report – 08.02.2010: Team Cena Down to Five; Randy Orton Gives the Miz a Reality Check

It may be taped last week, you may have read the spoilers, but regardless of that fact…

Recap of John Cena’s team in disarray is shown.

We’re back in San Antonio this week as Randy Orton takes on the Miz tonight! We also get a teaser of John Cena’s new movie Legendary tonight.

Edge is out talking about how he doesn’t trust the members of Cena’s team. He wants to do things his way…and he wants Wade Barrett in the ring tonight. R-Truth makes his way out to retort Edge’s thoughts. Truth tries to put the truth to Edge, and he tells Edge that he doesn’t have to listen to Cena, but he has to listen to him. Truth says that they’re fighting for the WWE Universe and that WE have to do this together. We get the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth and Edge gets pissed off. Edge feels that if Wade is taken out, the Nexus falters. The RAW GMail chimes in and it tells R-Truth to get out of the ring and that Edge will face Barrett next!

Edge v. Wade Barrett

Bell rings and they jockey for position. Wade gets the upperhand, but Edge reverses the post-to-post whiplash and Edge takes him down to a knee. Kick to the head follows and Edge is in control. Pillar to post goes Barrett and Edge covers for one. Barrett reverses a whip and we get a collision by both. Edge on the apron, Barrett kicks him off and the fight goes outside. Back in the ring, Barrett gains control, choking Edge at the ropes. He does it again, listening intently to the referee counts. Cover gets two. Headlock applied and the fans are crapping all over this match. Edge fights back and both hit each other with a clothesline. Double KO count starts and both men get up. Edge gets the momentum going and he goes for the Edgucation, but Wade counters and Edge goes for the Edgucator instead. Edge goes up and Wade meets him. Kick to the head by Barrett and he goes for his finisher, but Edge counters with the DDT and he lines up for the spear. He goes for it, but Barrett slides out of the ring. The rest of Nexus comes out and Edge escape harms way.

Result: No Contest
Grade: C+

Backstage, Edge looks for Cena asking where he was at. Cena responds that Edge said that he wanted to do it alone. Edge didn’t like the answer so he quits the team. Chris Jericho stands behind Cena and he guesses he wants to quit too. Jericho says that Cena needs to be the one to quit. So Jericho makes a challenge – him versus Cena with the loser leaving the team.

SummerSlam Recall: SummerSlam 1991 – Bret Hart v. Mr. Perfect

John Morrison talks to the Great Khali while Runjin Singh translates. A couple of the Nexus members tell Khali that they didn’t attack Khali because they respect him. They want him for the Nexus.

Natalya, Gail Kim, & Eve Torres v. Alicia Fox, Jillian Hall, & Tamina

Seems Alicia and Jillian made up from last week’s abortion. Jillian and Gail start things off by botching a takedown move near the ropes. Jillian follows by throwing Gail around like a sack of potatoes and she continues pulling the hair. Backbreaker performed decently by Jillian and she scores a two count. Alicia tags in and she hits a bridge suplex for two. The quality slowly goes up and Alicia can’t get a tag. Kick to the face and Gail lands a one-woman flapjack! In comes Natalya and she steamrolls through Alicia with suplexes and kicks. Powerslam connects and she hits a fisherman’s suplex with Tamina breaking the fall. Gail Kim looks for Sliced bread, but Jillian tosses her on Tamina and Jillian sends Gail to the steel ring post. Eve goes to choke Jillian, but Tamina levels her. Natalya looks to lock on the sharpshooter, but Tamina gets involved and this allows Alicia Fox to botch the scissors kick for the pinfall. Seriously, I’m going to call her finisher the Abortion.

Winners: Alicia Fox, Jillian Hall, & Tamina
Grade: C (Still better than the majority of diva’s matches as of late)

Post Match, Alicia Fox proves that she can’t cut a promo saying that she can beat all of them and that she is the greatest Diva’s Champion of all time. Cue Melina’s music and She’s back! Alicia Fox tries to leave, but Jillian tosses her back in and Melina does the Matrix move, following by the split-legged reverse DDT!

Sheamus v. Goldust

We recap their rivalry from ECW last year. CONTINUITY!

Match starts and they lock up. Sheamus backs Goldust up in the corner and Goldust eats a slap from Sheamus. Goldust goes apeshit on Sheamus and it lasts a minute until Sheamus takes over and he hits the Irish Curse on him. Pump Kick connects and Sheamus finishes this with the I-Cross (Razor’s Edge).

Winner: Sheamus
Grade: F (Squash…)

Sheamus gets on the microphone and he recaps what happened last year and tonight. He didn’t become WWE Champion by grabbing a briefcase or becoming a 2nd generation superstar. He explains how he ended Triple H’s career while Orton was unable to. He vows to do the same to Orton at SummerSlam.

Loser leaves Team RAW: Chris Jericho v. John Cena

For the record, Chris Jericho has never beat John Cena in stipulated matches that require the loser to leave a show, the company, or anything of the sort.

The bell rings and they lock up for position. Cena pushes Jericho to the corner and Jericho takes a cheap shot. To another corner we go and Jericho gets a suplex. To the ropes we go and Cena leaps over Jericho, landing on his shoulder and going to the outside. Jericho takes the fight out of the ring and he sends Cena to the steel steps. Jericho goes back in the ring, wanting to take a countout victory. Cena makes it in time and Jericho is all over him. Jericho tees of on Cena’s face and here comes a comeback, but Cena runs into a forearm. Jericho catapults Cena to the bottom rope and he locks on a headlock. Cena gets out of it with a snapmare. Jericho charges, but Cena baited him and HERE COMES CENA! Protobomb connects and Cena is looking to end this. Jericho does see Cena, though…CODEBREAKER CONNECTS! Cena smartly rolls out of the ring so Jericho has to waste time getting Cena back inside the ring. Cover…and Cena kicks out at two! Commercial time.

We’re back and Jericho goes for the Walls, but Cena powers out. Attitude Adjustment attempt, but Jericho has the ropes and he helps Cena out of the ring. Cena gets on the apron and Jericho springboard kicks him back off of it. Jericho sends Cena face first on the announce table and says Cena IS A STUPID MAN. HA! Back in the ring, Jericho gets on the top rope. Elbow to the face, but Cena won’t stay down! Back and forth and HERE COMES CENA! Not. Jericho evades the bulldog. He punches Cena to the mat and he hits the Lionsault for TWO! Jericho charges the corner and he connects! He helps Cena to the top rope and we’re looking for a superplex…BUT THE POWER OF CENA IS TOO MUCH! Cena with the Fame Asser and he scampers for a cover…TWO COUNT ONLY! Cena is limping a bit. Attitude Adjustment attempt, countered to the Walls! Just like last week, Cena counters to the STF and Jericho quickly taps before it is locked in!

Winner: John Cena
Grade: B+

Cena has the microphone and he puts Jericho over. He doesn’t want Jericho to leave the team because he is the best of the world at what he does. Cena won’t beg so he gives Jericho the choice. Co-exist with Cena, or let everyone including himself down. Jericho advances towards the ring before walking to the back.

We recap what just happened.

Backstage, Edge says to Jericho that Cena needs them. He shows his respect as does Jericho. They devise a plan to let bygones be bygones. They shake and hug as the RAW GMail chimes in. He announces Edge & Chris Jericho taking on John Cena & Bret Hart with the Nexus acting as lumberjacks.

Josh Matthews is with Randy Orton. Randy says that Sheamus needs to do his homework; that he gave Triple H a six week vacation due to a kick in the skull. He invites Sheamus to watch the proceedings tonight and assures him that the Miz won’t be able to cash in tonight. The caveat, though…in two weeks, Sheamus will have to play.

Preview of Legendary, starring John Cena.

The Great Khali v. Ted DiBiase, Jr.

DiBiase evades a lockup and tries a punch, but Khali doesn’t budge. He takes DiBiase apart in the corner and he does the overhand chop. DiBiase hits a low dropkick and he applies a front facelock. Khali counters that with a front slam. Clothesline connects and DiBiase backpedals in the corner. Maryse tries to provide a distraction and it seems to work as DiBIase has Khali in the corner. The Nexus come out and it allows Khali to bust out the Vice Grip and DiBiase passes out.

Winner: The Great Khali
Grade: D-

The Miz walks…main event is NEXT!

We get a clip of Will Ferrell & Mark Whalburg, who are in the movie The Other Guys. The Bella Twins were on loan for this promo, who wants Ferrell in the worst way. I’m serious…After such a great RAW, we get crap…thankfully Will Ferrell no-sells the Bellas.

The Miz makes his way to the ring to chastize Randy Orton for his actions last weeks. Orton will pay tonight and the Miz says that his moment will come at SummerSlam.

The Miz v. Randy Orton

The bell rings and they lock up. Orton backs Miz into the corner, but we get a bit of dance and Miz backs Orton into another corner, taking his shots. Pillar to post we go…Randy ends up in the corner, but he explodes with a lariat. Garvin stomp by Orton followed by a knee drop to the canvas. Miz has Orton scouted and he gets a near-fall. Miz kicks a mudhole in the corner a la Steve Austin and the Miz takes his time dissecting the Viper. He charges…Orton has a boot to answer and Orton catapults Miz to the bottom rope. I wonder why that spot is coming back, especially with chokes being banned. Orton gets the knee drop for two. Miz gets sent to the ropes, he holds on and Orton knocks him out of the ring. Sheamus shows up on the ramp as we take a break.

We’re back and Orton has Miz in his clutches as Sheamus looks on. Miz comes back with a kick to the face! Miz takes time to recover before taking a page out of Orton’s book. He takes Orton to the limit, for a two count. Miz continues with a headlock and here comes the Apex Predator. Orton gets out of it and he hits the 3.0 Backbreaker! Orton’s knee tweaks up a bit and Miz takes advantage, sending Orton to the bottom turnbuckle. Miz stomps away before he charges up for the corner clothesline. He connects and gets a two count. Miz beats Orton in the head repeatedly and is forced off by the referee. Orton explodes with an uppercut and Miz responds with a fist to the face. Miz gets blocked and here comes Orton again! Clotheslines all around and we get the powerslam! Miz rolls out to the apron, to which Orton is pissed off. No matter. Hangman’s DDT attempt and Miz counters with a suplex outside the ring! Miz throws Orton back inside the ring and hits the Reality Check! Orton kicks out at two. Miz misses his chance and Orton strikes with the RKO for the victory!

Winner: Randy Orton
Grade: B+

Sheamus charges, but Randy coils up, ready for an attack. Sheamus thinks better of it and we’re off the air!

Show over.
