Mixed fortunes for UFC 118 related programming on Spike

The UFC had mixed fortunes on Spike TV when it came to its programming in the lead up to UFC 118. The UFC 118 Weigh-Ins special was a success for the television station with MMA Junkie reporting that an average of 380,000 watched the Friday afternoon special,  with an informed source telling the website that the event performed ‘pretty good’ for its timeslot and was very strong in the key 18-34 male demo. Less successful was the UFC 118 pre-lims special, with the special being watched by a series-low average of 1.1 million. What was unusual is that the show was watched by progressively less people as the hour progressed with an initial audience of 1.2 million eventually falling to 1.05 million in the final quarter. Many would blame the opening fight between Nik Lentz and Andre Winner for turning away the viewers, with the wrestling heavy match being seen by many as boring.
