Trailer Watch: Teaser for Transformers: Dark of the Moon

A bunch of toys – that’s all they are. And yet these Hasbro toys have become a $1.5 billion movie franchise. Come summer 2011, that $1.5 billion could be $2.5 billion if Paramount and Michael Bay have their way. Two years ago, the first sequel, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, was a disappointment. Yes a lot of stuff blew up, but it lacked coherence. Granted this was a Michael Bay flick, but I guess I’m still holding out hope that he can make a film as good as The Rock again. Shia LaBeouf returns, but Megan Fox has been dumped in favor of Rosie Huntington-Whitely. Neither appears in this trailer, as we get to see a side of the Apollo 11 moon landing that we didn’t get to see. Check it out the first teaser for Transformers: Dark of the Moon below.

In this movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky must help his robot friends defeat enemies like Shockwave.

Like I stated above, Transformers: Dark of the Moon is directed by Michael Bay. Besides the Transformers and Bad Boys franchises, he’s also helmed The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and The Island (Remember that one? Because it’s easy to forget.) The first two Transformers films were co-written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Ehren Kruger also assisted with Revenge of the Fallen. For Dark of the Moon, Kruger flew solo in writing the screenplay. If that name sounds familiar, he’s also written screenplays for The Ring, Scream 3, The Skeleton Key and Arlington Road. Paramount Pictures will release Transformers 3 in theaters on the cusp of the Fourth of July on July 1, 2011.
