10 Thoughts on WWE RAW 05.23.2011 — Bret Hart, John Cena, The Miz

Reviews, Shows, Top Story, TV Shows

Hello, boys and girls. Kelly here, filling in for Rhett this week. Rhett’s too busy taking the next big step in his life, so here I am! Oh, and congratulations, Rhett.

1. Involving Bret Hart is perhaps the only way anyone will pay attention to anything concerning Lawler/Cole. And thank goodness. It was bordering on too much. I nearly banned the match from the Roundtable. But, of course, since the WWE saved an angle, they had to sabotage it. Best way to do that? Add R-Truth, babbling about and throwing verbs up against adjectives that have no real direction.

As if that wasn’t clustered enough, Cena’s here! Because you can’t have a promo without Cena, even if he has nothing to do with what was said.

2. Bittersweet tag team match. I love Kane, I hate Show. I love Joe-burt, I hate Otunga. I love Punk on commentary, I REALLY love no Cole on commentary. However, I’m not sure about all this business. Kane and Show seem to do well with the titles. But moving from Nexus Rejects, to Nexus Version 28.6 seems redundant.

Joe and Otunga as new champions…really? The tag team belts are almost as useless and irrelevent as the Diva’s title. Boring.

3. Capitol Punishment looks/sounds/feels like it’s going to be ridiculous.

4. Evan Bourne was a bit spicy tonight. Not only did he put up a decent fight for someone condemned to Superstars, but he snuck in some offense when Swagger was celebrating. Now, please, for the love of god, DO SOMETHING WITH HIM.

5. I’m not sure what to say about Cole’s apology. Partly because it was surprisingly well done, with the reasonable length and concise delivery. But mainly because, I really don’t care.

6. And just like that, Miz is done. That’s nice. Was his title reign just to promote a former Tough Enough star for the revival? Who knows. But one thing is certain…angry, out-of-control Riley…I like it. A lot.

7. Gail Kim in a match on Raw…knew it was too good to be true. Kharma enters, but not before Kelly Kelly could throw the only series of moves that she knows. Butt slap, bulldog, hair flail. Yawn.

Watching Kharma weep in the middle of the eight women was perplexing. Brought a whole new depth to her increasingly-intriguing character. You really don’t know what’s flowing through that twisted mind. Can’t wait for that explanation.

8. Kofi Kingston and Drew McIntyre were trending on Twitter during Raw, and for the life of me I’m not sure why. It wasn’t a bad match, but it wasn’t anything special, either. The title didn’t change hands, the finish was clean…I don’t get it, Twitter!

9. There are no words to describe the emotions coursing through my body after the tribute to Macho Man Randy Savage. No words come, except, we love you, Macho Man. And we miss you dearly.

And hat’s off to you, Punk. So much respect for you.

10. Punk’s personality absolutely blazed tonight, in a very good way. Eyes were drawn to him regardless of who was in the ring. Watching him against Rey Mysterio again, as well as Bret’s interference to win, was worth listening to “My Time Is Now” for the 3948394th time. Mark this day on your calendar. This may be the first time I’m okay with a Cena win.
