The Rager – The Truth Will Set CM Punk Free

Columns, Top Story

Greetings, people who like to read, to yet another edition of The Rager. In case you’re new to this, I go by Chris and I’m your Gondolier of all things ragetastic. As I’m sure many of you wrestling fans already are aware of, there’s really just one topic on everybody’s mind…

And that topic is…
…obviously about how there’s so much depth of character with The Great Khali….oh wait, that’s neither true nor does anyone give two craps.

I’m obviously speaking of all things CM Punk. I’m very sure you’re going to get plenty of thoughts and dissections on this matter and I’m very sure a lot of them will be better than what I can offer but lets dive into it, shall we?

THE Promo
Quite frankly, I don’t know where to begin with this. I missed about half of it when it was on live because I was either laughing my head off or in complete shock and nothing was registering upstairs. I’ve rewatched it a few times now and each time, I’m more and more convinced that it was the most brilliant pieces of mic-work I’ve ever heard. It was just one of those things where I’m left not knowing what to think because there’s nothing to compare it to. There’s never really been any mentioning of other wrestling promotions during a weekly event nor do wrestlers mention people who are “blacklisted” by the company, at least not intentionally. CM Punk just completely pulled back the veil…no, that analogy doesn’t fit…CM Punk pulled out the surgical knife and opened up the WWE for the entire world to see its innards.

What is or Wasn’t it
Naturally the debate will turn to “was it a work or was it real?” But quite honestly, that doesn’t matter to me and quite honestly, it probably was completely scripted which I honestly hope it is. Why? Because that means WWE is not trying to fool anybody anymore. WWE realizes that they can convince their fans that wrestling doesn’t exist outside of this company and that everything they do is for a reason and there are no mistakes.

Reasons why its fake
If you noticed, WWE put up their copyright logo back while the Cena/R-Truth match was still happening which was odd and was caught by myself and everyone else in the room watching it also, most of which was merely occasional fans and don’t watch that much. Also part of me believes that WWE would’ve cut Punk off a lot sooner than what they did and now that news (its 12:30AM ET as I’m writing this) of CM Punk’s suspension is breaking, I’m very sure that the frenzy of the wrestling world is going to stir and that’s exactly what WWE wants, especially after the past few mediocre months the company has had. Also the timing has me suspicious, a year ago, the big surprise was the NXT Invasion and took us all by surprise, so why would this be any different?

Why it could be real
Because the entire night of Raw, CM Punk went along with the script WWE gave him, probably making the higher-ups trust in him for that final monologue. This could’ve been a calculated move by Punk just so WWE wouldn’t cut him off sooner and at least they wanted to see where Punk was going with it. Once they saw where it had went, they cut it off. Also, before the announcement of his suspension, there was no mention of Punk at all after Raw ended, so maybe they were waiting to see how McMahon was going to handle it.

My thoughts
I believe this is planned but I think maybe Punk was a bit too detailed for WWE’s liking and named too many specifics. However, I believe the speech in general was planned and possibly so was the suspension. Where WWE’s going with this, who knows, but I just hope they have some sort of exit strategy unlike what they failed to do with the Nexus. All I know was that there was a lot of honesty said tonight, whether those were Punk’s feelings of the words of the WWE with CM Punk being the megaphone. All-in-all, neither of those possibilities matters. What really matters is that, we might have seen the most closest thing to honesty that we’ll probably ever get in the wrestling world.

If WWE wants ratings then they’ll definitely get ratings next week.

In other news
This past Monday night, I tried something new and live-tweeted during Raw and I must say that I had some fun with it. However, I was pretty quiet during the really dull points (Ziggles/Kofi….again, the tornado tag match, Divas) and during CM Punk but that was out of sheer astonishment. I think I’m gonna try to make this a regular thing so if you wanna join in on the fun then you can follow me here.

But that about does it for me, be sure to check back here at Pulse Wrestling throughout the week for more fantastic columns and, I’m sure, plenty of Punk coverage. Feel free to post your thoughts and comments below or on twitter about Punk or anything else you may be raging about at the current moment. Get it all out, it feels good, I promise.

Have a great week!
