Video: Eddie Edwards Not Releasing Achilles Lock On Kyle O’Reilly

News

Earlier this month, Ring of Honor World Champion Davey Richards and his tag team partner Eddie Edwards (the very man Richards defeated to become champion at Best in the World ’11) teamed up for a double-shot weekend where they faced the tag-team combination of Roderick Strong and Michael Elgin at Tag Team Turmoil the first night, and Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly the night following at No Escape.

Near the end of the No Escape match, O’Reilly, a protege of Richards, saw himself on the wrong end of an Achilles Lock secured by Edwards. O’Reilly then passes out when Edwards stomps him in the head. Referee Todd Sinclair calls for the bell. But there is no ring due to timekeeper ineptitude, who fumbled with the hammer to ring the bell. So Edwards continued to wrench O’Reilly in the hold.

Backstage Davey Richards is visibly upset and vocal towards Edwards, totally irate with the turn of events. Whether this small dust-up is the beginnings of a rift between the American Wolves, ultimately leading to Richards/Edwards III (following their one-on-one encounter on ROH on HDNET in the finals to determine the first ROH TV Champion, as well as their championship match of Best in the World ’11) at Glory By Honor X or Final Battle 2011, is not yet clear (hell, who am I kidding – you know it is). But you can be sure that this angle will be one of the major stories when ROH comes back to television this September on CW and MyNetworkTV affiliates owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group.
