Johnny Depp Will Be Edgar Wright’s Night Stalker – Movie To Be Adapted From Television Show

Casting News, News, Top Story

Deadline Hollywood has reported that Johnny Depp will be taking on another television show inspired film: The Night Stalker. And it’ll be directed by Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director Edgar Wright, famous for Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead as well as the cult television show Spaced.

Based off a 1972 ABC made for TV movie of the same name, and the series spin-off it inspired. The film will follow reporter Carl Kolchak (Depp) as his investigation of criminal happenings lead him to all manner of supernatural villains.

What does this mean? Depp is already starring in one film adapted from a television show this year in Dark Shadows so it’s not surprising he’d take on another based on how strong the source material is. Plus it’s an opportunity to work with Edgar Wright, who also needs someone with the sort of box office clout Depp brings to keep up the same profile he had before Scott Pilgrim under-performed at the box office.
