Edge Goes Into Detail About The Undertaker, Rock vs Cena and Much More

News, Top Story

Former WWE and World Heavyweight champion Edge discussed a variety of topics at this weekends Fan Axxess. Here are some of the highlights:

On how the fans should appreciate The Undertaker while they still have him: “I don’t know how many more WrestleManias The Undertaker will be at. So, as an audience member, you better soak this one in. Enjoy him while he’s around.” (As for a prediction with The Undertaker vs. Triple H, Edge said, “The Undertaker.”)

On John Cena vs. The Rock: “It’s two different eras colliding. I think back to Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock in Toronto at WrestleMania X8. This is kind of the reincarnation of that. John Cena has helped spearhead the WWE throughout the last decade. The Rock spearheaded the decade before. There both still in their prime, though. So, to me, it’s intriguing and it’s a good time to be a wrestling fan.”

On being apart of WrestleMania as a fan: “I still don’t know (how I feel about it). Ask me after. I think that’s when I’ll have a better knowledge of how I feel about it. Right now, it’s still just kind of surreal. I really don’t know how I feel about it yet.

“I guess I still expected to be on the show. So, the fact that — within a year — I’m being inducted (into the WWE Hall of Fame). I remember being on the bus to go to the Hall of Fame. last year. This year, I’m going in it. So, it’s just weird.

“… I’m kind of looking forward to being able to — for the first time since WrestleMania XIII — sit and say, ‘OK. Let me get back in my fan boots,’ and try and soak it in like that. I’m looking forward to that. I think I’m up in a box but I’m looking forward to being in the audience and be able to concentrate as a fan. Obviously, with an insider standpoint to it, but it’s the closest I’m going to get to being a pure fan again.”

On his new hair cut: “Yeah. I cut my hair. There’s not really a whole lot to explain. … I can (grow my hair long) but I can also cut it. I don’t know. I just cut it. It just felt like it was time. I always said, ‘I don’t want to be a 40-year-old with a ponytail. Alright. I think it’s time to do it.’

On Christian inducting him into the Hall of Fame: “It couldn’t have been anybody else. I’ve had people tell me that our story could be a movie. Two kids from a small town that had a dream — and it sounds cliche but it’s all true.

“This is what we always wanted to do. Two guys meet in the 6th grade and continue saying that this is what they’re going to do their entire lives and then end up doing it. Both succeeding at it. It really is a feel-good story. So, it couldn’t have been anybody else but him.”

On John Cena referring to him as the “Einstein” of professional wrestling: “I’ve heard it from John a lot. He’s told me that face-to-face before. It didn’t surprise me (when he said it) but it’s obviously a huge compliment.

“We would talk about stuff and I’d say, ‘Ehh. This is what I’m thinking.’ He’d say, ‘Holy crap. Wow. How’d you think of that?’ [Laughs.] ‘I don’t know, it just happens.’

“I ended up gravitating to something I was meant to do. I was lucky in that respect. Really luck because you never know if something is going to work. Thankfully I got here and realized it was going to work.

“Even still, if I sit down and think of something and somebody says, ‘Hey, you got an idea?’ ‘Yeah, badda-badda-badda-ba.’ Just happens. I don’t know why.”
