THE RAGER! Come At Me, Bro 2.0 (Mark Henry, WWE App, The Shield)

Columns, Top Story

Welcome to Part 2 of my random and disconnected thoughts. There was some sort of mishap in part 1 where the 2nd half got cut off. So is the resulting column picking up where the previous left off…ironically, it’s about technical difficulties

Speaking of Jericho, I’d like to talk about this week’s shenanigans with the WWE App. Of course, I’m not expert when it comes to these things (I’m still figuring out my iphone after getting it a month ago) and, actually, just a couple days ago, Pulse Wrestling posted an article that went into much better detail than I ever could. Michael Cole stated a few times that all the traffic to vote for Punk’s opponent is what caused the App to crash/not function properly. I will say this, I’m glad they learned from The Slammy’s and stopped doing the live demonstration of how to operate the app and went with a prerecorded, less awkward instructional video (because we all need to have our hands held in order to do anything technical). However, you’re trying to tell me that voting on Punk’s opponent is what crashed the app and The Slammy’s did not? That basis alone makes it hard for me to believe and all it does is confirm conspiracy theorists who said The Slammy’s were rigged but that bell has been rung way too many times. I downloaded the app a few weeks ago and, admittedly, it usually works pretty well on Monday nights as far as switching to live streams during commercials. However, this past Monday, the app wasn’t doing anything at all which is incredibly unfortunate since WWE seemingly designated this week particularly to really advertise for their product. But again, all things considered, the WWE Active feature of the app is pretty interesting, I just like technical difficulties because that adds to my morbid entertainment of live television especially considering the company is one that doesn’t like to take risks anymore on live weekly television. Of course, a bunch of people will say this was all a work because WWe wanted to make fun of the power outage at the Super Bowl the previous night. I wouldn’t put it past WWE and that theory was voiced by several people and I’m here to tell those people that is the dumbest theory ever. Why? Because why put doubt in the minds of people that potentially will use your product? Besides, I’m sure WWE wouldn’t want to pile on bad press for the Superdome considering that’s where WM30 will apparently be held.

Mark Henry returned and our resident heel, Blair Douglas, will probably roll his Canadian eyes at me for this paragraph but I don’t care! I’m glad he’s back, recovered and showed plenty of energy in his surprise return…but maybe that has more to do with my hatred towards Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara aka Masked Mud-Butt (Hi, my name is Chris and I’m in the 3rd grade). One can assume he’s going to be thrown into the Elimination Chamber for the WHC although people had said months ago that he will have a program against CM Punk upon his return but seeing as how he’s kinda busy at the moment, I would assume that would start during the period after Wrestlemania (traditionally known at the Pocket of Suck). The guy doesn’t have that many runs left in him and there were a lot of uncertainties about if he could return so, me being the usual greedy wrestling fan, I’m glad he could return and continue the run of his career.

Also, my Classy Ring Attire co-host, Joel Leonard, joined me in my apartment to watch Raw and we started a new twitter campaign to point out when John Cena uses heel mannerisms but still remains a face. for example:

Waits for Braddox to get hurt before attacking the shield #NotAFace #raw

Cena technically didn’t call out the shield, way to not follow-up on a promise #NotAFace #raw

If you would like to join in on the #NotAFace fun, follow us @CRAttire and give us your non-face Cena observations.

Speaking of The Shield, remember back when I posted a column hoping that The Shield wouldn’t turn into Nexus 2.0? Yeah, this Monday they finally stepped into full Nexus mode after Cena and his super friends (as well as rest of the roster) came out to finally (although Ryback’s been doing this for the past two months) give them what they had coming. Once again, it feels like WWE only had a plan for these guys up to a certain point and that certain point came last week when the video evidence came out. Now we’re in the usual clean-up mode where Cena and the super faces have to swoop in and save the day and once again, we see yet another storyline that was working on its own get adopted by Cena and subsequently put to death shortly thereafter. Things are just scrambled right now and I think a lot of it has to do with where we are in the wrestling calender because a lot of stories were dissolved because of the rumble, leaving everyone to scramble to put some rivalries together in the 3 weeks leading to EC. Obviously there’s exceptions with Rock/Punk (although it’s difficult to make a rivalry believable when one half of it is absent…just saying) and Del Rio, Big Show, Ricardo and Big Show’s hotel room.

Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do twice,
Chris

The Answer: I think the epicness of the closing moments of Raw was put into a perfect frame as Jerry Lawler majestically stated, “Come at me, Bro.”
