On WWE Backstage Fallout, Chris Jericho gave a very candid interview about what it was like to face CM Punk in an instant classic after having six months off from WWE. Jericho said it was very gratifying to have his fans vote him into the match over Rey Mysterio and Randy Orton, and he also explained that he had a feeling he’d be in the match because his feud with Punk last year was “the feud of the year.”
The actual word backstage last Monday night was that WWE officials seemingly thought Orton would win the fan vote in a landslide, so when Jericho did win it actually did throw some folks for a loop. That is why Orton faced Wade Barrett for the umpteenth time on Raw even though Orton has no interest in the Intercontinental title.
