Anthony Pettis had an interesting interview with the NY Post about his upcoming bout with Jose Aldo for the featherweight title in Brazil. One quote in particular stands out:
“A lot of things led to my cutting down to 145. I was tired of waiting for a 155 pound title shot.
It’s not a permanent weight cut (to featherweight). But a striker like myself and Aldo, it doesn’t really matter what weight class it happens at. It’s going to be fireworks either way. ”
Kubryk’s Take: I love the matchup as a fight fan but it didn’t make sense from a purely sporting sense. And the fact that Pettis won’t be long for featherweight, and Aldo eyeing a move up to lightweight after this fight anyways, we could see them facing off at lightweight sooner than later as well.
