Disc News: Naked City Boxed Up In November

Disc Announcements, News

Ever hear an old person get cranky about how disgusting the names today’s TV shows are? How they don’t want to say Hardcore Pawn or Pawn Stars around children. Well remind them that their generation had Naked City. The TV series has nothing to do with a nudist colony. Instead it’s about cops working the Big Apple beat in 1958. The show was shot in New York City so there’s plenty of footage of the city during the vibrant era and not just the usual b-roll and establishing shots. The cases police investigate go from homicide to a bit of hilarity such as the thief who breaks into a grocery store and marks down the prices. The show set the precedence for so many great cop shows including The Wire and Police Story. The guest stars include Kojak, Columbo, Quincy and Captain Kirk. After being released in various compilations on DVD over the years, all the episodes are finally coming out in a single boxset. Naked City: The Complete Series arrives November 5. When you buy it, you can keep mentioning to your crabby elder if they want to see more Naked City. Here’s the press release from Image Entertainment:
