Jason Statham Looks To Be Breaking Badass In Homefront Trailer

Media, Trailers

So here we have Jason Statham taking on a guy that seems to be attached to everything these days (either that or he’s writing, directing, attending graduate classes, yada yada yada). Yep, James Franco. Seems like it would be a one-sided affair (seriously, Statham vs. Franco?), but this first trailer seems to want to conjure up memories of Patrick Swayze’s Road House – if Swayze were a single dad and an undercover cop.

As for James Franco’s character. If you’ve ever seen the show Breaking Bad and remember Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito), you pretty much understand who he is. He’s a manufacturer and dealer of crystal meth.

The folks at Open Road have debuted the trailer over at Yahoo! If you can look past the fact that it appears to condense the film’s probable 100 minute running time into two and a half minutes, you might be a little excited. That really depends on how much you want Statham to pummel Franco on screen. Franco knows how to baffle his dissenters, after becoming one of the biggest highlights in Spring Breakers earlier this year. He gave a very not-Franco-like performance, so I’m willing to give him a small pass.

Homefront is based on the seventh novel written by Chuck Logan. The film’s director, Gary Fleder, is no stranger when it comes to helming adaptations having directed the films Kiss the Girls, Don’t Say a Word and Runaway Jury (the last of which does a complete shift of John Grisham’s source material, due to Michael Mann’s 1999 release, The Insider). And the man who penned this adaptation is none other than Sylvester Stallone.

Besides Jason Statham and James Franco, the film also stars Winona Ryder and Kate Bosworth.

Homefront will open in theaters on November 27.
