Eddie Alvarez is still working for Bellator… for now.
The organization’s lightweight champion remains under contract with the promotion but has been considering negotiating his release so that he can sign with UFC. Lawyers for both Alvarez and Bellator are currently discussing the fighter’s future.
“They’re talking about a couple of different options,” Bellator President Scott Coker said to MMAjunkie. “Right now, that’s where it is.”
With regard to how the discussions and negotiations are going, Coker said, “I don’t want to speculate as to what’s going to happen. But I know that they’re talking.”
The fighter’s future with the promotion recently came under scrutiny once again with rumors of a potential UFC 178 fight between Alvarez (25-3 MMA, 9-1 BMMA) and Donald Cerrone.
