WWE Main Event News: Show Not Likely To Return To WWE Network For Months

Legal problems prevent showing new episodes…

WWE Main Event is taped as the first hour of each week’s Smackdown tapings on Tuesday. It generally airs live on the WWE Network as a perk for Network subscribers.

However, as of the January 22, 2015 episode, WWE Main Event is off the WWE Network, as there is a conflict with the TV deal for Main Event in the UK territory, where the WWE Network is set to launch

Originally, WWE officials were hopeful that the legal impasse could be surpassed and that the show would be back on the network as of the January 28, 2015 episode.

Sources close to the situation indicate the contract issue between WWE and Sky Sports doesn’t at this time look like it will be resolved any time soon.

The WWE Network is a single feed – there are no restrictions on content by region. This type of technology – geoblocking – is being planned for WWE Network but isn’t in place yet. It is expected to be ready later this year, somwhere in the late summer or early fall timeframe.

Until there is a change in the contract or the geoblocking is ready, WWE Main Event is not going to air on the network.

The show will continue to be taped due to international broadcast commitments but it would have no television home in the United States, but will remain available on Hulu.
