Here is a quick look at some highlights on the shelves this week. DC is kicking off a few new series this month and Marvel’s Secret Wars continues with a bunch of tie-ins. Not a lot of jump-on points or new series outside of the Big 2, so I’ve included a list of TPBs I’d recommend checking out ASAP…

Long Distance #1 21st Tank GirlStory, Art, and Regular Cover by Thomas F. Zahler, Subscription variant Cover by Lora Innes

  • As the title implies, two stranded strangers meet and become acquainted in an airport until they must leave from their respective destinations. Can the state of Indiana keep these two apart for good?

Starve #1 – Written by Brian Wood; Art and Cover by Danijel Zezelj & Dave Stewart

  • A new series from Image, chefs perform in an arena for their wealthy patrons, often creating rare and even illegal dishes.

21st Century Tank Girl #1 – Written by Alan Martin; Art and Cover by Jamie Hewlett

  • Original creators Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett return to start a new series based on their infamous character! Hewlett (artist and co-creator of Gorillaz) hasn’t penciled Tank Girl in about 20 years, so this is an event to get in on.

DC’s NEW #1’s & ARCS!

Convergence is over, as are Futures End and Batman: Eternal, meaning most DC titles should be taking place in present day; no more time jumps to confuse some of us readers! Most DC titles this month are either new series or new arcs which makes this a great time to pick up any long-running series you’ve been curious about or get in on the ground floor of a new series. Here’s a list of some of the highly-anticipated new books and arcs coming out this week…

All-Star Section 8 #1Constantine Hellblazer Written by Garth Ennis; Art and Cover by John McCrea, Variant Cover by Amanda Conner

  • Heroes that haven’t been seen since Hitman return for the “greatest super-hero story of all time!” Starring Sixpack, Bueno Excellente, Baytor, Dogwelder, and others, need another member for the team. Enter The Dark Knight. I’m mostly excited that Garth Ennis is writing this series, so get in now!

Constantine The Hellblazer #1 – Written by Ming Doyle & James Tynion IV; Art and Regular Cover by Riley Rossmo (shown at right), Variant Cover by Ming Doyle

  • Everyone’s favorite dark magic detective stars in his own new series! This should be a fine jumping-on point for new readers, not only because it’s a first issue, but because Constantine seems to be venturing on his own to solve something from his past.

Earth 2 Society #1 – Written by Daniel Wilson; Art and Cover by Jorge Jimenez, Variant Cover by Paulo Siqueira

  • Survivors of their war with Apokolips, including Green Lantern, Power Girl, and another new Batman, head to a new world! But will they be welcome or run the risk of repeating the past?
