Spoilers and review for DC Comics Rebirth’s Deathstroke #1 follow.
This issues kicks off right where the Rebirth one-shot ended (spoilers here) with Deathstroke, aka Slade Wilson, rescuing long-time confidant and mentor who was presumed dead Wintergreen, aka William Randolph Wintergreen, from the clutches of Warlord Jazaki.
We Wintergreen attempting to save the children under the protection of Deathstroke from the Clock King with…
…interesting chronal results for Wintergreen! Deathstroke strikes Clock King who seems to be made up of…
…time itself? A battle ensues and…
…the Clock King loses. Deathstroke than confronts Jazaki’s men, who are holding the village boys hostage, that he honored his contract and the Congressman was re-elected; he never promised he wouldn’t take a header afterwards. Deathstroke reinforces strongly that boys remain under his protection and are not to be harmed or else!
Wintegreen has been in captivity so long he thinks this adventure with Deathstroke just a recurring dream of his. However, Deathstroke shakes him into reality with…
…a punch to let him know this is all real!
The book ends with Jazaki wondering how he can turn around recent events to his favor. Definitely not the end.
So…
I’m a long-time Deathstroke fan so was please to see DC including him in Rebirth. The one-shot and this debut issue are what the doctor ordered. Action, intrigue, geopolitical backdrop…. a fun and compelling romp! Definitely back for Deathstroke #2.
