Rasslin’ Roundtable for NXT Takeover Toronto 2019 PPV

Columns, Top Story

Tonight is NXT Takeover Toronto! Here is the Pulse Wrestling crew’s full preview with match by match predictions.

NXT Champion Adam Cole vs. Johnny Gargano (2-out-of-3 Falls Match)

JT – this match has the potential to be excellent, but we know that Gargano is going into it with a nagging injury to his knee, so hopefully he’ll make it through the match without any major incidents.
Winner; Adam Cole, Bay Bay

S.Streeter: Well, their last 2 matches were frankly some of the best stuff WWE has put out this year, so that can only be good here. The stipulation thing is interesting, and I think it will help make this different to the other 2 matches. I am expecting 30-odd minutes, I am expecting it to be fantastic, and I expect Cole to retain 2 falls to 1.
Winner: Adam Cole

Widro – Should be an incredible match and one of the best of the year.
Winner: Cole

NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler vs. Mia Yim

JT: while Mia Yim has built up some decent momentum recently, I’m not sure Shayna is ready for a move up to Raw or Smackdown at this point, so she’s probably going to hang on to the belt for now.
Winner; Shayna

S.Streeter: Not sold on Baszler. Sorry. But am sold on Yim. I do expect this to be hard-hitting and I do expect it to be watchable.
Winner: Mia Yim

Widro – A real in ring test for both, as Yim is in her first match on a big stage and Baszler’s progress has stalled.
Winner: Baszler

NXT Tag Team Champions The Street Profits vs. The Undisputed ERA

JT: the Profits are already moving on up, while at least 2/3 of the Undisputed Era are too ugly and/or short for Old Man Vince to consider for the main roster.
Winners; the Undisputed Era

S.Streeter: This show is packed with potentially great match-ups. This is another one. I expect there to be some double team moves not seen before, and I expect it to be an insane exhibition.
Winner: The Undisputed ERA

Widro – With the Street Profits hanging out on the main roster I think they are taking the L on their way out.
Winner: Undisputed Era

NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream vs. Pete Dunne vs. Roderick Strong (Triple Threat Match)

JT: Velveteen Dream is at the top of his game, Pete Dunne is a finger-snapping psychopath and Roddy Strong is really good at backbreakers. One of these things is not like the others…
Winner: Pete Dunne

S.Streeter: Please, God, just let one of the other two win! Is this for the title? I hope so, because Dream’s selling and taking of moves is not improving. Give it to Roderick Strong because he’s a good wrestler and in NXT that seems to actually matter.
Winner: (please) Strong

Widro – Very interesting match on paper and could be great or a train wreck. Happy to see Dunne in this mix.
Winner: Dream

Candice LeRae vs. Io Shirai

JT; the battle of the former best friends is another step in the evolution of Io Shirai into a legitimate contender for the NXT Women’s title, so Candice is just there to bump like a maniac. Should be fun.
Winner: Io Shirai

S.Streeter: I actually have high hopes for this match. I think this could be something very cool indeed.
Winner: Shirai (though that was a coin toss)

Widro – Great to see 2 women’s matches on the show.
Winner: Shirai

Matt Riddle vs. Killian Dain maybe?

JT: Dain has been kicking the crap out of Riddle at every opportunity, so in the spirit of 50/50 booking I expect the King Of Bros to pick up the win.
Winner: Matt Riddle

S.Streeter: Meh.
Winner: Riddle

Widro – Riddle hasn’t clicked with me in the NXT context so far but this could be a step forward
Winner: Riddle
