New York ComicCon just wrapped up and had an array of TF news!
The weekend began with TF designers John Warden and Ben Montano revealing Earthrise and Scorponok to Syfy during their live coverage of New York Comic Con 2019. They first showed off the previously revealed Wal-Mart exclusive cel-shaded Optimus Prime and Megatron figures. However, the two new reveals were Earthrise Starscream and a tease of the next titan size figure, Scorponok!
To quickly touch on Earthrise, it appears the Transformers are heading back to a familiar backdrop: Earth. This is a bit intriguing since Siege is set in a pre-war Cybertron. Following the comics, there hasn’t even really been a shot fired yet. I’m wondering how we jump from pre-war to Earth so quickly. Hopefully the story bridge will be interesting. As for the figures, it’s really amazing how close they are coming to a Masterpiece-esque design. You’ll see more photos later in the article, but take a look at that Prime. The figures look like they jumped out of the cartoon, but at a (relatively) low price point. And that Cliffjumper shares a few joints with everyone’s favorite MP yellow Volkswagen…just sayin’.
Next up is the truly big reveal of the weekend: Zarak! It’s a grey prototype, but you can definitely see the resemblance t0 the big green and purple scorpion we all know and love. Well, his head at least. What’s really neat about this is that it’s set up like Fortress Maximus. We will get a deluxe figure to form Scorponok’s head who also has a titan master figure for his head (a la Cerebros). I don’t know about you, but 6 year old Mikey is thrilled that I have three levels of play vs. Fort Max basically stopping on poor little Zarak.
There is a really neat pic of Omega Supreme transformed like Scorponok on the inter-webs. Credit to whomever did this and made it go viral in every Facebook group I’m a part of. I’m assuming this will be the base of the Scroponok figure with some nice remolds.

We were also treated to a couple “NYCC Exclusive” Generation Select figures sold at the Entertainment Earth booth. I put it in quotes since all the major retailers were able to get a stock of the figures, but they were available through EE with a pin onsite.

Last but not least, the weekend ended with the Chaos Bringer getting funded! There was a huge influx of orders over the weekend, hitting 8,000+ Saturday night. Hasbro Pulse then added in all the overseas figures to give us 282% (288% at one point) of goal!
There has been a lot of debate on this figure. Good, bad, or indifferent, it is an amazing figure in person. I saw it at SDCC in all it’s planet eating glory. I honestly can’t wait for 2021 to get my hands on this bad boy. Can you imagine the box? My G1 heart yearns for a 1986 Transformers the Movie homage. Hold onto your wallets, because everyone is getting billed this week for it. Unicron, see you in 2021!
