DC Comics Universe and Justice League #39 Spoilers and Review follows.

Justice / Doom War Ends In An Unexpected Way…

…As Year Of The Villain Continues?!

Perpetua’s forces clash with the combined might of the Justice League as a de-powered Lex Luthor, Apex Lex Luthor no longer as Martian Manhunter has been exorcized from him, seems to be having second thoughts of betraying the Legion of Doom and siding with Perpetua?

Perpetua seems to be captured, but…

…the Doom sigil continues to endure…

…humanity has chosen Doom.

That means that Perpetua can create a new universe…

…one without heroes and a Justice League!

The Quintessence arrive, with Ganthet, the Spectre, Hera, Highfather and Shazam, but…

…the heroes seems unfazed and disappointed they didn’t join fight earlier.

In turn, they respond that the Justice League was destined to lose!

We end with a glimpse of DC’s Year of the Villain skirmishes across the line, as well a flash of Doomsday Clock with the Justice Society of America (JSA) vs. Shazam lore’s Black Adam, as the Justice League is ready to engage Perpetua…

…and that’s how Scott Snyder’s run ends. Well, that’s a rather unsatisfying end. Looks like DC will conclude this, and many other stories, in the four issue Year of the Villain Hell Arisen event pitting Perpetua’s forces against the Batman Who Laugh’s infected Secret Six. That micro-series is already 1/2 way through with Hell Arisen #3 out in February 2020. Justice League #39 ends with a tease of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s next project The Encore.

The Pulse:

As stated, an unsatisfying end to this long planned and executed story arc with the forced purchase of Hell Arisen. Art was ok. 4 out of 10.
