DC Comics and Suicide Squad #1 Spoilers and Review follows.

Things All Go To Hell, But Can A New…

…Field Commander, NOT Peacemaker, Make The Difference?!

We open with a look at the past incarnations of the Suicide Squad and…

…the reveal that the current team’s new mission will be proactive not reactive “justice” that long-time field commander Rick Flag has an issue with.

However, this new era has already begun with Peacemaker leading a team to infiltrate Arkham Asylum.

That team includes Bolt and they’re after…

…William Cobb aka the Court of Owls’ Talon who appears to give readers their first Suicide Squad member death a hallmark of the franchise.

Back at Belle Reve penitentiary Amanda Waller has Rick Flag incarcerated, despite not being a criminal, but someone who opposes her plans for the team.

Back at Arkham Asylum, the guards unleash Joker Gas to subdue the infiltrating Suicide Squad, but Peacemaker slips away possibly infected.

With Flag jailed, the Suicide Squad team needs a new field commander and its not Peacemaker, but…

…Superboy Conner Kent?!

The book ends back at Arkham with Peacemaker welcoming Talon to the Suicide Squad and his first mission is help both of them escape.

Next up is Suicide Squad #2 in stores on April 6 / 7, 2021.

The Pulse:

I’m a long-standing (long-suffering?) fan of the Suicide Squad back to when the current incarnation debuted during the Legends series. This latest series evokes the same feel of unpredictability as the original and I was surprised that I did not miss Deadshot or Captain Boomerang. Peacemaker, Talon and Superboy Conner Kent are an interesting nucleus for this new more proactive team. Art was solid too. 9 out of 10.
