This is the third volume of a World of Krypton mini-series.

The first 3-part series was released in 1979 and was collected as part of a broader collected edition in 2018 called Superman: The Many Worlds of Krypton.

That collection also included the second World of Krypton mini-series, it was a 4-parter, that icon John Byrne had worked on.

2022 features the finale of the longest World of Krypton mini-series with issue #6.

It’s Jor-El vs. Dru Zod.

Friend vs. friend.

Scientist vs. General.

Scientist wins by banishing General to the Phantom Zone.

An act that allows Zod to survive Krypton’s imminent destruction.

Jor-El grieves for his friend.

However, he and his wife Lara need to think about how to save their soon-to-be-born from Krypton’s impending destruction.

Looks like Lara has found a hospitable planet with a different color sun to the one Krypton orbits.

And thus, a legends is born.

The Pulse:

The story of what happened on Krypton before a baby Superman was rocketed to Earth was always been compelling for me. This last issue remained compelling on story as Robert Vendetti gets the delicate balance of sci-fi and super-heroics. However, while I generally enjoy the interior art of Michael Avon Oeming, I just don’t think his cartoony art style worked for the grittier tone of this series. An entertaining finale nonetheless. 7 out of 10.
