John Stewart: Emerald Knight #1 Spoilers and Review.
In their battle with the self described god Esak John Stewart explains the multiverse and Hypertime to his Emerald Knights.
Rivers vs. streams stemming from the Source is the explanation.
From this they clue together Esak’s plan to create his own New Gods.
They confront Esak in the climax to the story.
Esak who has harnessed power to make himself into a New God.
However, even though John Stewart is taken captive, the Emerald Knights free him by attacking Esak.
It also looks like John Stewart teamed up with a Hypertime version of himself to aid the Emerald Knights.
They restrict Esak’s cosmic powers; he no longer has infinite power.
Esak then departs teasing that he may actually be or become the villainous Time Trapper of Legion of Super-Heroes lore.
The book ends with only one John Stewart remaining.
As well as the Emerald Knights ready to do more good in the universe and John Stewart looking for his wife Katma Tui.
More to come is teased, but I had hoped this book would have explained how the Emerald Knights, including John Stewart, became the Green Lantern Corps again the the pages of the Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths finale (full spoilers here).
The Pulse:
Intrigued by what’s to come, including the Time Trapper nod, but not a fan of the non-GLC Emerald Knights concept as it was executed. John Stewart and Hal Jordan get their own series in Dawn of DC so curious what the new status quo will be for both. This issue was action-packed and a capstone on the previous storyline of John Stewart and his non-GLC Emerald Knights. The art was ok. 5 out of 10.
