You’ll note the original cover below had Harley Quinn on it, as did the solicitation, but the book didn’t include her hence the cover change and my striking of the solicitation above.
Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn #1 Spoilers and Review.
The first reborn legend is Renee Montaya.
We even get a recap of her backstory.
She is the Gotham City Police Department Commissioner and she has also returned to her Question roots.
She helps solve a big case.
While teasing more Question for Dawn of DC while readers can see her from time to time as GCPD Commissioner in the Batman Family titles.
Next up is the Titans’ Raven.
She is teamed with Beast Boy against her father the demon king Trigon.
He is after two demon spririts on Earth that Raven will protect.
However, looks there may be more to come from Raven’s “brothers” and her father during Dawn of DC.
Next up is new character City Boy.
He appears to be the successor, or at least someone who has similar powers to, John Cooper “Jack” Hawksmoor known as the King of Cities.
City Boy is in Gotham City and his symbiotic powers come from the city he’s in.
A new companinon for him is belched out of the city?!
The bigger the city, the more powerful he is.
The city drew him to a crown in the river and by touching it he connects to its story about its owner.
Nightwing pulls him from the river and City Boy then travels to the crown’s owner to reunite them.
The book ends with more to come from City Boy, and his new companion, during Dawn of DC as he’s now on Batman and Nightwing’s radar.
Next up is a personal fave character of mine in Firestorm.
This version is the original Professor Martin Stein and student Ronald “Ronnie” Raymond.
However, something goes terribly wrong with Dr. Martin Stein at the end of their adventure, but readers are not clued in yet.
Jason Rucsh, Mikhail Arkadin or Firehawk, people that have been part of the Firestorm Matrix that creates Firestorm are not present.
However, we meet S.T.A.R. Labs Dr. Ramirez who is called into service to help Ronnie Raymond and becomes part of Firestorm Matrix.
They team up to defeat the threat they combined to take down.
Ronnie senses there is more work for them to do, but they uncouple nonetheless.
It seems there is something wrong with the Firestorm Matrix as its aged Dr. Ramirez a fate that has befallen Dr. Stein who we learn is in critical condition in a hospital.
Ronnie reforms Firestorm to keep Dr. Ramirez from aging further ane becoming more frail so they can also learn what’s wrong with the Firestorm Matrix.
More to come during Dawn of DC.
Next Up.
The Lazarus Planet Checklist notes what’s next for this event.
There’s also this version of the checklist against a map of Earth so readers learn where the various titles occur.
The Pulse.
An ecclectic mix of characters in stories from different corners of DC. Most intruguing stories for me were with the Question and Firestorm and less so Raven and City Boy. Solid art throughout the book from the varied art teams with mixed stories on the writing side, but the Firestorm tale was the strongest. Still intrigued by what’s next for these characters during Dawn of DC. 6 out of 10.
