Batman Vs. Robin #5 Spoilers and Review.
The first few pages summarize what’s happened during the Lazarus Planet event.
Basically the Alpha and Omega issues and not the tie-in one-shots which were less about material event moments, but spotlighting different characters for the Dawn of DC publishing initiative.
Then we get to the now.
Nezha has taken over Batman’s body and has his son captive.
However, Robin tricked Nezha by pretending to want to help him defeat his son, King Fire Bull in exchange for his father’s life.
He escapes and his chased by a fiery Batmobile and is assisted by the Monkey Prince.
The Monkey Prince’s conjured mini-clones were not enough to stop Nezha so he and Robin are on the run.
The Monkey Prince tells Robin the only way to save the world is for the son to kill the father and therefore destroying Nezha.
Robin seems resigned to Batman’s fate and sets a plan in motion.
However, the Batman Family isn’t enough to take down the Nezha-Batman.
Enter conjured Damian Wayne clones via the Monkey Prince.
It’s a cool visual, but not enough to defeated Nezha.
A subdued Nezha is greated by DC’s most powerful mages who also have a plan.
Robin tells them to do what they need to do knowing it will defeat Nezha and likely kill Batman.
However, his plan all along was to sacrifice himself and give his life force to save his father, but it’s not enough nore is the Batman Family’s collective life forces.
So, Robin communicates with the world asking everyone to willingly give up a small unnoticeable bit of their life force to save Batman and that won’t impact the donor.
The populace shouts “We Are Batman” in their efforts to help/
It works!
Father and son are reunited!
Batman and Robin team again.
Next Up.
While this seems to a definative end to Lazarus Planet there are a few more tie-in’s over he next two months that we’ll have to see how relevant they are to the broader event narrative.
The upcoming tie-in’s focus on Shazam Family and Wonder Woman Sisterhood and seem more mystical in nature.

A satisfying end to this limited series and the Lazarus Planet event. Compelling characterization, intriguing drama and bold action in a high-stakes finale issue. Solid art too. 8 out of 10.
