July 2023 is filled with Street Justice, Scorsese and Spaghetti Westerns from Arrow Video

Disc Announcements, News

Arrow Video has three titles that are perfect for watching in July when the fireworks are over. We get a lost ’80s urban street battle, a trip to the time when First up is Fighting Back which hadn’t come out on DVD. After battling the Alien in space, Tom Skerrit discovers his nice Philly neighborhood has taken a turn for the worse. He refuses to pack up. He fights back with his old spaceship pal Yaphet Kotto in support. You can rediscover this lost tale of urban decay. Blood Money: Four Western Classics Vol. 2 [Limited Edition] brings us four Spaghetti Westerns about loot.  $10,000 Blood Money, Vengeance is Mine and Find a Place to Die promise tales of treachery filmed in Spain and Italy. Matalo! (Kill Him) is a hippie Western about a gang that falls apart in an abandoned town. How weird does it get? There’s a gun fight involving boomerangs. In case you’re wondering, the first volume was Vengeance Trailers: Four Classic Westerns.

Martin Scorsese provides the family-friendly option with Hugo. Instead of a violent neighborhood or Little Italy, Scorsese takes us to Paris in 1931 to meet a kid named Hugo. The movie came out 12 years ago. Not only will there be a Blu-ray, Arrow has a 4K UHD so you can bring the magic of Marty’s vision home at a higher resolution. There’s also a 3-D Blu-ray version of the film to bring the movie closer to your eyes.

Here’s the press release from Arrow Video about all three releases and their bonus features:

DISC 1 – $10,000 BLOOD MONEY
Django is back! Starring Gianni Garko and directed by Romolo Guerrieri, the story pits Django against the most unscrupulous of criminals, Manuel Vasquez (Claudio Camaso). Garko is a bounty hunter tasked with bringing in his Confederate soldier brother-turned-renegade-outlaw to justice. The Blu-ray special features include brand new audio commentary by critics Adrian J. Smith and David Flint; Cain and Abel – a newly edited featurette with archival interviews with actor Gianni Garko and screenwriter Ernesto Gastaldi; In Conversation with Nora Orlandi – a newly edited archival interview with the film’s iconic composer; Movie After Movie – a brand new interview with producer Mino Loy; and a theatrical trailer.

DISC 3 – FIND A PLACE TO DIE
In the tradition of The Professionals and The Magnificent Seven comes director Claudio Camaso’s twisted take on the men-on-a-mission film, Find a Place to DieJeffery Hunter stars as Joe Collins, a former solider tasked by a beautiful woman to save her husband, who’s trapped in their gold mine. Collins assembles a motley crew to ostensibly save the woman’s husband but, in reality, are eager to steal the gold. The Blu-ray special features include brand new audio commentary by author and critic Howard Hughes; Sons of Leone – a newly edited archival interview with director Giuliano Carnimeo; and Traditional Figure – a brand new, in-depth appreciation of the soundtrack and its’ composer, Gianni Ferrio, by musician and disc collector Lovely Jon.

DISC 4 – MATALO! (KILL HIM)
A gang of outlaws gets more than they bargained for in director Cesare Canevari’s Matalo!(Kill Him). After a double-cross that leaves a gang of criminals with a windfall of gold, they hide out in a ghost town where the only other people appear to be a couple Ray (Lou Castel) and Bridget (Claudia Gravy). The gang begins to terrorize the couple, never dreaming they would fight back. They also didn’t count on those deadly boomerangs Ray
has in his satchel. The Blu-ray special features include a brand new audio commentary by critics Troy Howarth and Nathaniel Thompson; A Milanese Story – a brand new, in-depth interview with filmmaker Davide Pulici, discussing the career of Matalo! director Cesare Canevari; Untold Icon – a brand new, in-depth appreciation of the soundtrack and its’ composer, Mario Migliardi, by musician and disc collector Lovely Jon; and a theatrical trailer.

Blood Money: Four Western Classics Vol. 2 [Limited Edition]

Box set featuring 4 classic spaghetti westerns including “$10,000 Blood Money”, “Vengeance is Mine”, “Find a Place to Die” & “Matalo! (Kill Him)”.

Blood Money: Four Western Classics Vol. 2 [Limited Edition]

In the mid-1960s, the success of Sergio Leone’s “Dollars” trilogy gave rise to an explosion of similar productions. Filmmakers sought to capitalize on this new, uniquely Italian take on the western, characterized by their deeply cynical outlook, morally compromised antiheroes and savage violence. This specially curated selection gathers four outstanding examples of the genre, all centered around the theme of blood money. In Romolo Guerrieri’s $10,000 Blood Money, Gianni Garko – best known for his portrayal of supernatural gunslinger Sartana – takes on the part of another beloved western antihero, Django, who is on the trail of bandit Manuel Vasquez (Claudio Camaso). But what started as a job for hire soon turns personal, with Django swearing vengeance against the unscrupulous outlaw. Then, in the film’s spiritual successor, Giovanni Fago’s Vengeance is Mine (1967; a.k.a. $100,000 for a Killing), Garko and Camaso once again star as estranged half-brothers – one a Confederate soldier now riding with renegade outlaws, the other a bounty hunter tasked with bringing him in alive. Next, in Giuliano Carnimeo’s Find a Place to Die, Jeffrey Hunter plays Joe Collins, a disgraced former soldier who assembles a ragtag band of scoundrels. They are lured into helping a woman to rescue her prospector husband, who is trapped at their gold mine cave-in – though in reality, they have designs on the gold strike themselves. Finally, in Cesare Canevari’s psychedelic Matalo! (Kill Him), a band of outlaws, having holed up in a ghost town, set about terrorizing travelers Ray and Bridget – only to get more than they bargained for when Ray fights back, armed only with a bag full of boomerangs. Featuring a wealth of key Euro-cult talent both behind and in front of the camera, Arrow Films proudly presents these four classic westerns in sparkling High Definition restorations produced specially for this release, alongside a plethora of brand new bonus materials.
