Natural Born Killers (Collector’s Edition) brings the mayhem to 4K UHD in September

Disc Announcements, News

The buzz when Natural Born Killers was coming out in the summer of 1994 was overwhelming. Quentin Tarantino had become the hot filmmaking with his directorial debut Reservoir Dogs and script for True Romance. Pulp Fiction was the sensation at Cannes, but wasn’t coming out until Fall. The idea that Oliver Stone was directing a Tarantino script (although Tarantino was only getting as story by credit with David Veloz, Richard Rutowski and Oliver Stone getting the script credit) made people ready for Friday night tickets. There were already parent organizations fearing the end of civilization during opening weekend. The movie did well, but something felt missing. Then it emerged that Oliver Stone had an unrated Director’s Cut which included nearly four minutes of cuts that were required to get an R-rating. The director’s cut arrived on VHS in 1997 and really elevated the movie. Now the director’s cut is coming to 4K UHD as part of the Natural Born Killers (Collector’s Edition). The boxset also includes the theatrical R-rated cut on Blu-ray. Here’s the press release from Shout! Factory:

Three-time Academy Award® winner* Oliver Stone (JFK, Platoon) delivers a powerful movie unlike any other: Natural Born Killers, a visually dazzling, wickedly funny slam of violence and media obsession that’s “the most radical film any major studio has released since A Clockwork Orange” (Stephen Schiff, The New Yorker). As fugitive serial killers Mickey and Mallory, Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis play two crazy, mixed-up kids that’d give a demon nightmares.
