Marvel Wants To Know….Do You Fear Tomorrow?

Media, News, Official Images, Top Story

A new teaser image was released today, featuring Spider-Man and…..a lot of bad current events. We’ve got war, bailouts, protests, the terror advisory, all shown on television screens in a business closing down. Newspapers fly, Spider-Man looks on, and while Marvel has said more than once that he’s the real world  character in their universe, complete with losing his job earlier in the year, it looks like they’re at it again. Making Spidey a hero to the “real world” by having him deal with the problems we face. Apparently this is promoting something coming up in April, so I figure we’ll get a ton more teasers in the meantime.

I have a problem with this. See, I read comics to escape. I read them to be in a world that is not my own, where fantastic things can happen that would never be possible in the real world. In other words, I don’t want to pick up my escapism to read about how shitty the real world is. I don’t want my comics to be about the recession, or about the war on whatever we’re at war with this week, I want superheroes that fight supervillains, and maybe even win in the end!

And Spider-Man is the worst point of view character, I mean, dude barely works even when he has a job, never has any real trouble finding a place to live, was married to a super model until the DEVIL erased the marriage. Dude is hardly an every man, he’s a superhero. He’s an everyman like Clark Kent.
