Former International Fight League welterweight champion Jay Hieron has reportedly signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce. Hieron, who most recently was scheduled to face Paul Daley at Affliction: Trilogy, is now expected to replace the ailing Joe Riggs against Nick Diaz in a bout for the Strikeforce welterweight title.
Strikeforce officials originally wanted Phil Baroni to face Diaz, but that bout was nixed by Showtime officials. Scott Coker made brief attempts to sign Takanori Gomi for a rematch with Diaz, but wasn’t able to pull it off.
