In a surprising development the planned world light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Rashad Evans has been cancelled due to the champion suffering torn ligaments in his right hand during his title winning fight against Shogun Rua at UFC 128. So instead Evans will face the undefeated blue-chip prospect Phil Davis in what will prove a stern challenge to the former champion. ‘Mr Wonderful’ has a perfect record of 9-0, with five victories inside the UFC the most of recent of which coming against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. What’s more he may well be the first man to face Evans who can outwrestle the The Ultimate Fighter 2 winner with Davis having the superior wrestling credentials, including a NCAA Division 1 title.
