It looks like all that talk was for nothing.
UFC officials have announced that UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (14-1 UFC) has suffered a “leg injury” during training and has been forced to withdraw from UFC 178’s main event against the undefeated Daniel Cormier (4-0). The match has been rescheduled to headline UFC 182 on January 3 in Las Vegas.
Reports say that Jones’ injury is a torn meniscus in his knee in addition to a sprained ankle that the champion suffered.
The new main event for UFC 178 features Demetrious Johnson (8-1-1) and Chris Cariaso (6-4). That match was originally scheduled to be the co-main event for UFC 177 and will now headline the September event.
