According to Variety, Steven Spielberg will follow-up War Of The Worlds with his cherished 1972 Olympics project, rumoured to be titled Vengeance as soon as next June. Chroinicling the tragic events that put an abrupt end to the games, the movie should be based on the 1984 non-fiction book Vengeance.

Half-confirming the report, news came from Quebec newspaper Le Soleil that French-Canadian actress Marie-Josee Croze, rewarded at Cannes for her part in the highly acclaimed Barbarian Invasions, has met with Spielberg recently to discuss her potential involvement. In an interview with the paper, she mentioned that she and Spielberg spent way more time discussing aliens and the war in Iraq, but she felt confident to be called upon next summer.

Other names have circulated around the project in recent months, including Eric Bana, Daniel Craig and veteran actor Ben Kinglsey. Kinglsey had reportedly dropped out of the projects a few months ago, due to a potentially conflicting schedule for his involvement in Roman Polanski’s Oliver Twist adaptation. If Vengeance does indeed happen in the middle of 2005, Kinglsey may find time to re-unite with his Schindler’s List helmer.

In any case, Spielberg has been known to juggle many projects in recent years, including War Of The Worlds, which happened in the wake of Tom Cruise’s delayed Mission Impossible 3, and the dismissal of Frank Darabont’s Indiana Jones 4 script.
