WWE Best Steel Cage Matches DVD Gets a Release Date

Disc Announcements, News

It has been confirmed by WWE (via WWEDVDNews.com) that its upcoming release of Best Cage Matches (Title Subject to Change) will be available beginning June 28, 2011. Like Hell in a Cell and Satan’s Prison: The Evolution of the Elimination Chamber, the release is tailor-made for fans who enjoy steel cage matches.

Back in October 2003, World Wrestling Entertainment released Bloodbath: Wrestling’s Most Incredible Steel Cage Matches, a two-disc compilation that only included eleven matches in full and clips of several others. Just as a refresher these were the matches included:

Bob Backlund vs. Pat Patterson (9/24/79)
Jimmy Snuka vs. Don Muraco (10/17/83)
Magnum TA vs. Tully Blanchard (Starrcade 1985)
Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart (SummerSlam 1998)
Triple H vs. Mankind (SummerSlam 1997)
Edge vs. Kurt Angle (SmackDown!, 05/28/02)
Bruno Sammartino vs. Ivan Koloff (12/15/75)
Bob Backlund vs. Stan Hansen (4/6/81)
Ric Flair vs. Dusty Rhodes (7/24/86)
Rock ‘n’ Roll Express vs. The Andersons (Starrcade 1986)
Shawn Micheals vs. Marty Jannetty (8/17/93)

A number of these matches may very well be repeated on the new release and other cage matches found on different compilations may be double-dipped as well. But when you consider that WWE has used its video library holdings to spotlight promotions like AWA, WCCW, ECW and WCW, the company could very well give us some never-before-seen on DVD matches involving The Von Erichs and The Freebirds, Steamboat vs. Flair, Roddy Piper vs. Rick Rude, as well as any post 2002 matches that WWE has had.

Once we get the official listing of matches, we’ll let you know.

And because it probably won’t make the new steel cage compilation, here’s Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle from Raw, 06/11/01.

Travis Leamons is one of the Inside Pulse Originals and currently holds the position of Managing Editor at Inside Pulse Movies. He's told that the position is his until he's dead or if "The Boss" can find somebody better. I expect the best and I give the best. Here's the beer. Here's the entertainment. Now have fun. That's an order!
