Canadian independent wrestler Shawn Spears, who briefly appeared on WWE’s version of ECW, is the latest wrestler to join the Wrestling Revolution Project. Spears is the 17th wrestler announced for the first tapings Oct. 11-13 in Hollywood, Calif. More details on Spears at GeekWeek.com.
A native of St. Catharines, Ontario, Ronnie Arneill was a lifelong wrestling fan who decided in grade school that he was destined for a life inside the squared circle. Trained for the ring by Eric Young, Arneill would debut as “Shawn Spears” in 2002 and would quickly become a top performer on the Canadian wrestling scene. He would go on to be signed to a developmental contract in 2006, which would see him move to Kentucky and eventually Florida in pursuit of his dream. He would ultimately make his full-time national television debut in 2008 under the handle “Gavin Spears.” Finally heading back out on his own in 2009, Arneill would travel the world with stints in Mexico, Puerto Rico’s WWC and Ring of Honor among others. Now making his home in Los Angeles, Ronnie Arneill will prove to be a major player as a member of the WRESTLING REVOLUTION PROJECT.

As one of the founders of the acclaimed PWG promotion and head trainer for Mach One, Joseph Ryan Meehan has, as “Joey Ryan,” become a staple of the Southern California wrestling scene. Trained by Brian Kendrick, Meehan has gained fans across the Pacific Coast with his unique combination of strong in-ring skills and hilariously smarmy charisma. His talents have also taken him to ROH and he has made several national television appearances battling the likes of Big Show and John Morrison. Now the 2010 winner of the Battle of Los Angeles tournament prepares once again to defend his home turf, this time as a member of the WRESTLING REVOLUTION PROJECT.
The additions of Joey Ryan brings a lot to the table, and as a hometown SoCal wrestler has to be considered a big coup for the organization. Ryan’s ROH tenure was nothing short of a disaster, partially because of his lack of availability, and partially due to ROH’s lack of treating him like a big deal when he was there, but I look forward to seeing him on a weekly basis in WRP. The Shawn Spears addition is interesting, as he seemed to be turning a lot of heads in OVW, but fell prey to the dreaded “Creative has nothing for you” when he arrived in WWE. I haven’t personally seen him since he parted ways with WWE, so I join a lot of other wrestling fans in hoping that he’s really come along since.
