DC Comics Relaunch: Third New 52 Event With Young Justice (Teen Titans & Legion In; Superboy Maybe)

Columns, Features, News, Top Story

As part of the news of the changing of the writing guard on Legion Lost, where Tom DeFalco will take over from Fabian Nicieza, came a few teases for upcoming issue of the title:

A crossover with TEEN TITANS involving the organization known as N.O.W.H.E.R.E. — with a revelation that will change the entire course of LEGION LOST!

A Timber Wolf romance that could rip the team apart!

A power struggle for leadership!

Tyroc has a deadly secret…and the team isn’t happy when they learn it!

And a traitor lurks in their midst!

Now, the last four teases are very Legion Lost specific, but the first one about Project N.O.W.H.E.R.E. seems revealing. And, would seem to spoil a reveal in Legion Lost #6. The cover image is to the right and solicitation is below.

Since the first issue, this time-lost band of Legionnaires has been operating in the shadows out of fear of corrupting the timestream. Now, their secret is out! Timber Wolf is captured and interrogated by a shadowy organization! Will he be able to maintain the team’s cover? Or is their future doomed?

So, is said shadowy organization… Project N.O.W.H.E.R.E.? Would seem to make sense. Plus, the lost Legionnaires are teens so right the wheelhouse of Lobdell’s shadowy cabal.

From there, while DC is talking about a Legion Lost / Teen Titans cross-over event, effectively making it DC’s third announced event / cross-over behind its Green Lantern titles spanning one, and the O.M.A.C. / Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E. cross-over, its hard to imagine the Superboy title not being part of it…. since N.O.W.H.E.R.E. is the character’s raison d’etre.

That adds some interesting conjecture around the recently teased debut of Brainiac Girl in the pages of Superboy. Is she a villain or is she a Legionnaire, possibly? Legionnaires are called “boys” and “girls” after all. However, with the current “lost” crop not including her, and time travel not possible in the current post-Flashpoint DC Universe, it’s unlikely she is from the 31rst Century, but time will tell.

Add to that the steps Scott Lobdell seems to be taking to concerning the Doom Patrol, this new 52 Young Justice cross-over may encompass more as the plans get sorted. We’re still very early in the New 52, even with the creative change on Legion Lost, so it seems that all these event may be coming to a head in 2012.

So, will this event involve:

– Legion Lost (yes)
– Teen Titans (yes)
– Superboy (Superman family title) (seems highly likely)
– Doom Patrol (not sure)

Plus others? There are other books in the Young Justice brand of books and/or feature teen characters after all such as:

– Static Shock (25-1 odds)
– Blue Beetle (50-1 odds)
– Hawk and Dove (75-1 odds)
– Fury of Firestorm (Justice League family title) (100-1 odds)

It is interesting to note that Static is stopping by to clash with the Teen Titans in their sixth issue in February. Hmmm. ;)

I haven’t factored in the last Young Justice title since that book, Legion of Super-Heroes, is set in the future and time travel is impossible right now in the New 52 DCU.

So, what say you?
