The Real World: Denver

This episode featured Jenn drinking some more. She talks about how alcohol was the only reason she had sex with Alex and feels disgusting when she thinks about that. They then have a nice little argument where Alex “crosses the line”. She comes home from drinking and tells Alex to go screw himself using another word for “screw”. Alex tells us why don’t you “screw” me again. That is crossing the line fo Jenn. And I guess I can see that, but Alex DOES have a point. I’m not buying that alcohol was the sole cause of their sexual encounter. That seems like a cheap out to me.

Anyways, Jenn later goes to a club and brings home another guy to rub it in Alex’s face. They don’t have sex she says. But she does say that oral sex was performed and she didn’t perform it. So there you go. Read between the lines.

The only other thing that happened during this episode was that the gang got to find out their job. They are going to be “Outward Bound” teachers for a group of teenagers. There are mixed reactions to that announcement. They have to live outside for 5 days. Oh, and they get two Jeep Compass cars. That’s a sponser, you know. The girls and Davis are in one, while “The Frat” gets in the other. The girls have problems driving a standard, but it’s all good as the other one is an automatic.

The second episode picks up where we left off in the last episode. The gang is gathering supplies to take to the camp outside. The girls get some clothes and act all girly. Brooke is a girly girl to the max! She needs baby wipes and all kinds of stuff to stay clean outside. This should be fun. Of course, Alex, Stephen, and Tyrie separate themselves from Davis and the girls. They seem to be more annoyed by them than usual.

Off to camp they go and they meet their boss on this “Outward Bound” job. His name is Chris. He tells them there job is to come up with some outward bound courses to teach to teenagers. But first they must go through “Outward Bound Boot Camp”. They have to spend 5 days and nights outside to “train”. Raliegh will also be one of their instructors. The best part of this is that they will be working with kids from New Orleans, which excites Colie since she lived there. Unfortunately for her, she can’t participate in most of the activities due to her having mono. She spends most of the time sleeping to get better quicker.

Here is basically how the rest of the episode went. Brooke whines and cries about being outside. She whines when they jump into the river. Everyone else knows that the river is cold, but she screams more than anyone else. She later cries about going to the bathroom outside.

In between Brooke crying, they do actually learn and overcome some fears. They have to “trust” each other and themselves on the “ropes course”. They have to climb on a series of ropes, high in the air. Brooke has a panic attack, but she overcomes her fear. The rest of the gang do the same. Of course, completing this course provides everyone with a great sense of accomplishment.

Once they are done with that, they talk about what was hard for them that day. Everyone encourages Brooke. She faced her fears. Brooke still feels bad, though, since everyone else completed everything so easily and she didn’t. Keep your head up and stop your crying!

They eventually finish things by doing a little rock climbing. Again, we get the same thing here. People climb rocks. Brooke doesn’t think she can make it to the top, but she eventually does. And when she does, she feels good about herself and everyone congratulates her. That’s basically all for this episode. It was Day 1 or at least the first couple of days of their “wilderness” training.

WEDNESDAY (01/10/2007)

The Real World: Denver

This episode picks up EXACTLY where we left off last week. Everyone is still on those rocks. This time they are repelling down the rocks. Brooke is not the only one afraid this time, though. Tyrie is nervous as well, but he kills this task as expected. Brooke tries to do this task, but she just can’t do it.

We finally get some drama outside in the wild as Alex and Brooke get into an argument. Alex is mad because Brooke doesn’t clean up after herself, among other things. This is where Chris really starts to realize that Brooke has some problems. Things get worse from here. Brooke is irritated and doesn’t like to be told what to do.

Oh, I should mention that my thinking that Brooke would commit the sin of “sloth” at their job was correct. She is a little lazy. Anyways, everyone but Colie goes on this backpacking trip. Colie is still sick and Chris doesn’t want her to get even more sick. So Colie runs off with a dude named Adam, who has been bringing everyone supplies from the “outside” world. They immediately start talking.

There was also a nice little conversation about “going #2” in the woods. Me repeating the conversation wouldn’t do it justice. Basically, the gang is told how to go to the bathroom in the woods, including depth, width, time, place, etc. It was just weird. Of course, Brooke whines about this as well.

Back to Brooke, though. Before the trip, she is wearing these infamous “shorts”. They are really underwear and Chris calls her out on it. Basically, Chris says you can’t wear underwear when you teach teenagers. Brooke says she knows that, but is still going to wear them now. That’s strike #1. Strike #2 comes later when she is going to the bathroom IN THE MIDDLE of the camp. She talks about wiping herself and here comes Chris to chew her out again. Jenn says that Brooke is close to getting fired. Chris and Brooke talk things out and everything is all good for now.

The gang finally gets to go back home and no one is more happier than Brooke. But before they go home, we learn that Colie got a little “close” to Adam. For some reason, she is attracted to him. He’s like a crunchy hippie, though. Maybe it’s the ‘A’ names. Oh, and they get paid as well. Back at home, Alex and Brooke talk. Alex says that Brooke has potential to be so much better and wants her to be better. Brooke says she really struggles to be happy, but Alex believes she can be, though. So we end things on a “mushy moment”. More drama to come soon…

THURSDAY (01/11/2007)

Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Duel

We are down to 3 men and 3 women. Jodi and CT think they are the winners aleady since they are stronger than their competition and no one can beat them. At least CT believes so. Of course, everyone else think they will win it all as well.

Time for the next challenge! It is called “Paddle Me”. It’s the last challenge before the finale. That means it’s BOTH a “Female Duel Day” AND a “Male Duel Day”. The object is to paddle yourself from one end of the body of water to the other. Winning female and male is safe and goes to the finals. Second place gets a reward as well, though. They get to choose which “Duel” they will be in against the third place guy or girl.

Brad and Aneesa are partners to start off with. Svetlana and Wes are partners. CT and Jodi are partners. They have to paddle on the same board to start and then they get the other boards at the opposite end of the lake. Once they get the other boards it’s every man or woman for themselves. Wes and Svetlana get their boards first and take off. CT and Jodi are right behind them, but Jodi is superwoman and not only beats Svetlana, she beats Wes as well. Wes wins for the guys.

Svetlana did come in second for the girls and she faces Aneesa in “I Can”. CT finished second and he faces Brad in “Push Me”. Svetlana picks “I Can” even though she asked Aneesa and she said she didn’t want to do that one. It’s time to see who goes home.

Brad and CT go first. It’s pretty even throughout. CT does get the edge, though, and pushes the log towards the flag. Of course, he makes the mistake of RIPPING the flag off. So he gets a DQ! And again, of course, CT EXPLODES in anger! He said he was robbed and I do agree that rule is stupid, but he was there and no one was stopping him from unclipping the flag like he was supposed to. Anyways Brad moves on to face Wes in the guy final.

Time for the women now. This will be less exciting. They start the bidding. They are picking up logs this time. Aneesa wants to lift the logs and she says she can do 73 logs. Svetlana tells her to do it. Aneesa tries to pick up the logs, but she can’t do it. Svetlana is moving on to the finals against Jodi. So we have some relative newcomers facing some veterans in the final. See you then.

And that ends Side B of the 25th volume of the “MTV Mix”! If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or feedback of any kind..send them my way!!

I’ll see you next time when we mix things up a bit!

Sir Linksalot: Reality Television

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
