Tommy Morrison scored a second round knockout victory over John Castle in his comeback fight. Both guys suck right now but apparently this was a big deal. Morrison was heavyweight champion a decade ago until he tested positive for HIV. He says he doesn’t have it anymore. Take that AIDS.

Johnny Tapia won a majority decision over Evaristo Primero in Tapia’s last fight. Tapia is a five-time world champion. Known for his battles inside and outside of the ring, Tapia had a long career highlighted by his fights with Paulie Ayala and Danny Romero. Tapia hopefully finishes his career with a record of 56-5-2 (28 KOs).

Other News From The Week

– In the continuing De La Hoya-Mayweather-Mayweather saga, Floyd Mayweather Sr will be in the corner of his son for his May 5th fight against Oscar De La Hoya. Floyd Senior had been training Oscar De La Hoya but his $2 million asking price for the Floyd Junior fight was too much for Oscar to go along with. Oscar hired Freddie Roach for the fight. The Mayweathers were not on speaking terms for a few years but their problems have been put aside since Floyd Senior knows things about Oscar that Floyd Junior doesn’t know.

– The Contender will get his title shot. Sergio Mora, the winner of the first season of The Contender, has reached a deal to fight middleweight champion Jermain Taylor. The fight is being slated for late May-early June.

– Add Arturo Gatti to the list of fighters interested in the training services of Pernell Whitaker. Calvin Brock is already on board with Sweet Pea and Gatti will most likely use Whitaker for his upcoming July fight.
