Line-up for Saturday’s Show (Updated 6/1/07)

News

Dave Meltzer of WrestlingObserver.com has posted this updated line-up for Saturday night’s “Dynamite USA!!” EliteXC/K-1 HERO*S show taking place at the Los Angeles Coliseum:

Dark matches

  • Isiah Hill vs. Katsuhiko Nagata
  • Hideo Tokoro vs. Brad Pickett

    Showtime matches to air live

  • J.Z. Calvan vs. Nam Phan (originally scheduled as a dark match, and not 100% to be on Showtime)
  • Jake Shields vs. Ido Pariente
  • Jonathan Wiezorek vs. Tim Persey (replacing Antonio Silva)

    Pay-Per-View matches to air live

  • Johnnie Morton vs. Bernard Ackah
  • Melvin Manhoef vs. Yoon Doon Sik
  • Mighty Mo vs. Ruben Villareal (replacing Choi Mu Bae)
  • Royce Gracie vs. Kazushi Sakuraba (match is now official, but was in question due to Gracie not being licensed until recently)
  • Brock Lensar vs. Kim Min-soo (replaced Hong-Man Choi)

Hill, the man facing Nagata with Gabe Ruediger taken off the card, was contacted by FEG today, and added to the card since he’s been recently licensed to fight in California, according to Meltzer. Meltzer originally reported that Ruediger had a problem getting licensed “for reasons having to do with mental stability stemming from his behavior a few months ago on Ultimate Fighter” but later posted an update saying that “CSAC officials made it clear today that Ruediger was not denied a license, nor suspended, and they expect he will fight in California as soon as possible. His being pulled from the show had to do with testing they wanted him to undergo that wasn’t going to be able to be done in time to clear him for a fight Saturday night.”

Meltzer goes on to report that the Lesnar/Min-soo and Gracie/Sakuraba fights will be three five-minute rounds (rather than five), since FEG says they want the bouts to be uniform. Ackah/Morton will be three rounds of three minutes each, since it is Morton’s debut and he’s only trained for a few months. Also according to Meltzer, earlier today there was “no word” with regards to what the Silva and Mu Bae problems were.

In a lot of ways, the big story here (aside from all of the last-minute changes to the card, including Gina Carano being off the Showtime line-up due to falling ill) is Brock Lesnar’s MMA debut in the PPV main event. For a good feature on Lesnar’s transition from amateur wrestler to professional wrestler to pro football to MMA, check out this Sherdog.com story. We’ll have more on this as it is available…
