Triloquist – DVD Review

Some films just don’t even deserve witty banter. More so, there’s just none that can be conjured up when pure disgust is all you have in your mind.

Living as a child with your mother in a hotel room has to be traumatic. Things have to haunt your life even more when your crackhead mom overdoses while shooting up next to her ventriloquist doll named “Dummy.” Angelina and Norbert are now left homeless and without a parent in sight. Off they go to foster care and end up with their uncle who isn’t any better then their mother was because he abuses them. But thanks to a little friend, he is quickly taken care of and they’re better off.

Fast forward to years later and we have Angelina and Norbert trying to get by in life as best they can. That proves to be somewhat difficult though since Norbert only speaks through Dummy and together with Angelina; they kill just about everyone they run across. After one particular murder, Angelina turns Norbert into the police and now she has Dummy all to herself. Soon she realizes she needs Norbert and breaks him out of the crazy house so they can move to Las Vegas and make some money. This plan also gets put on hold when Angelina realizes that Norbert needs to find a girl and have a baby so they can have a bigger family. Things get out of hand, more people get killed, and it is just insanity.

Holy hell is this God forsaken awful. There is nothing but tons of cursing, more killing then you care to shake a stick at, and nonsense that Dr. Seuss would find ludicrous. It makes no sense half the time so I find it hard to comprehend what it really is supposed to be about. All that can be taken from it is a freakish brother and sister duo that kill people with a ventriloquist Dummy with an oh so clever name. An incredibly bad script with actors that wouldn’t know talent if it jumped up and bit them; Triloquist is only good if used as a coaster. Even then there’s a chance it would contaminate your coffee table.

The film is shown in 1.78:1 Widescreen format and it looks quite good. All colors are bright and sharp while darker scenes show everything clearly.

The film is heard in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and if you’re looking for a film that builds suspense with silence then this isn’t the one for you. There is almost constant sound coming through every speaker, but all can be heard well without problems.

None

I’ve seen some bad films before, but this one just takes the cake. There were times while watching Triloquist that I wondered where my copies of Grim Reaper or Creepshow III were lurking, but crawling into my bird’s cage through all her discarded food and crap was against my better judgment. Having not a single special feature was a blessing because this DVD found its way out of my player and into the incinerator…err, onto the shelf where it belongs forever. I’m done with this.
