Japanese MMA promotion World Victory Road held their Sengoku 6 event last night, and one of the best lightweight fighters in the world suffered an upset.
Takanori Gomi, a fighter who most believe to be one of the top five lightweights in the world and the absolute best non-UFC lightweight fighter, dropped a split-decision loss to Red Devil team member Sergey Golyaev. Gomi, the crown jewel of World Victory Road, had been expected to face the winner of the lightweight Grand Prix, a tournament which also concluded at Sengoku 6.
