Third Season of Mad Men Likely To Premiere in August

News

Word spread through the Twitterverse Monday afternoon that the third season of Mad Men will begin in August. AMC isn’t saying so for sure, but it isn’t denying the date either.

Production on the Emmy-winning series’ new season began Monday in Los Angeles. Word of a possible premiere date surfaced within a few hours, although few specifics were available. An AMC rep says the cable channel hasn’t nailed down a specific premiere date yet but hopes to do so in the next few weeks.

If the August date holds, it will push Mad Men a little deeper into the teeth of the broadcast networks’ fall launch. The show’s past two seasons have debuted in late July and ended in October.

Series creator Matthew Weiner will be back for this season (and the next) after signing a lucrative new deal with producer Lionsgate TV in January. Negotiations dragged on for several months after the conclusion of season two, and the two sides eventually reached an agreement that included a deal for Weiner to stay with Mad Men for two more seasons while also developing other TV and movie projects for Lionsgate.

Season two of Mad Men ended with Don Draper (Jon Hamm) and his Madison Avenue cohorts in late 1962. It’s not known yet whether, or how far, the show will jump ahead in time again to start the new season.

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
