Ever since Terrence Howard looked at the silver Iron Man armor and said, “Next time, baby,” fans have been dying to see his character become War Machine, and more than a few have been secretly hoping to see a spin off starring the other Armored Avenger. Unfortunately, according to the Coventry Telegraph, we shouldn’t hold our breath.
Don Cheadle, who has taken over the role from Howard, said in an interview with Wizard magazine, “Hopefully, if this one does well, there’ll be another [Iron Man film] with the same people. But there won’t be a [War Machine] spin-off.” Cheadle also addressed his taking over the role, saying, “My first and only hesitation was about Terrence, because he is a friend. I wasn’t going to do it until after he said he wasn’t taking it. But, y’know, it’s a short list. If you’re on it, and you say no, they’re on to the next guy.”
For now fans of War Machine will have to make due with Iron Man 2, which will release to theaters May 7, 2010. If the movie does well, we may someday see a War Machine film somewhere down the line.
